Our dear friend and retired partner, Charles C. Owen, passed away Saturday, March 7th at the age of 76. Charlie was widely respected as a tax attorney for over 50 years, and served as the president of Gill Ragon Owen, P.A. from 2000-2014.
Charlie was a nationally recognized writer and speaker on a variety of legal and tax topics. A licensed CPA (inactive), three times he was named as Outstanding Discussion Leader by the Arkansas Society of CPAs. On eight occasions he was named as recipient of the Arkansas Bar Association’s “The Best of CLE”. In 2017 was awarded the James H. McKenzie Professionalism Award by the ABA.
While not practicing law, Charlie enjoyed golf, duck and dove hunting, fishing, cooking, and a fine glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. He was known to have spent leisurely weekend evenings with his wife, Carolyn, cruising Lake Hamilton in search of perfect sunsets.
Charlie’s professional accomplishments were substantial, but we will also cherish the memories of his endlessly kind heart, brilliant smile, infectious laugh, and of course his “Thought for the Day” emails that gave us a needed daily dose of wisdom and humor.
